The King of God’s Kingdom

A Solution to the Puzzle of Jesus

Jesus announced the breaking in of a concrete new age of restoration for Israel and the world.

Enjoyment of it, however, was always conditional on acceptance of the king. Though the kingdom retreated, its authority and power were paradoxically established by Jesus’ death, at the very moment of its rejection and apparent defeat.

The King of God’s Kingdom focuses attention on the three years of Jesus’ public ministry. The inquiry begins at the third day after his death, for that, in a way, is where he entered world history. It then moves back to the ministry of John the Baptist to trace the story forward. At the end it returns to the questions of truth and hope.

Most of the research for this book was done at Tübingen University (Germany) in 1987 and Oak Hill College (London) in 1998. It was my greatest adventure.

David Seccombe was Principal of Cape Town’s highly regarded George Whitfield College and a New Testament scholar of sturdy reputation. This monumental treatment of Jesus and the kingdom he claimed both to introduce and to rule is able, insightful, faithful, and refreshing.
