Ithumeleng (Hope) Motlhope drowned on 30th December 2011 trying to rescue a final year medical student from the surf in Mozambique.  A South African of profound faith – his last sermon was on heaven – Hope was an inspiration to many. He had completed his second year at GWC and was about to go into his last year of the degree course.

It seemed clear to everyone at George Whitefield College that the new student centre should bear his name.

GWC’s students come from all over Africa. Most need accommodation.

The Hope Centre was complete and took its first cohort of students in 2019. The Dedication was held on 18th May 2019. Hope’s mother and sister and brother attended.

Thanks be to God and his many generous servants! The Hope Centre is close to paid for. The amount still needed is less than 5% of the total, though it is an amount that needs to be met soon. A further issue is the provision of storage batteries. The building has 100 solar panels. The running cost of the Centre will be greatly reduced if electricity can be stored and used at night.

  • Target $3.5m
  • Still required $170,000 (AUD)
  • Needed for storage batteries
