Gospel is a word we hear a lot in Christian circles. But what is it? It is not good that there should be confusion and fuzzy thinking about the exact nature of what Jesus and his followers called the gospel. For, according to Paul, that “gospel” is the instrument God uses to save people (Romans 1:16).
The gospel matters because people’s lives are at stake. God’s gospel gives life, and it alone gives life.
I have wrestled with this question over many years, and The Gospel of the Kingdom is the outcome. It looks at what “gospels” were in the ancient world, the gospel in the Old Testament, Jesus’ gospel and what the apostles proclaimed. Then it examines how the gospel relates to a lot of important things it is sometimes confused with.
The gospel opens a door into a new world. It is truly revolutionary.

Who am I?
For 20 years, I was Principal of George Whitefield College (GWC), Cape Town, South Africa. Since entering semi-retirement, I continue as a roving ambassador for GWC, an author and a preacher. My books include The King of God’s Kingdom: A Solution to the Puzzle of Jesus (Paternoster), and Dust to Destiny: Reading Romans Today (Aquila Press).
Why am I self-publishing?
Publishers have had to reduce their activities significantly, because of major changes affecting publishing worldwide. Those same changes have made professional self-publishing with worldwide distribution a much more achievable goal. The book will go out as a Whitefield Publications imprint, but as George Whitefield College does not have the wherewithal to finance it, I am doing that myself through this crowdfunding campaign.
This book is important to me and to many of you. It was time for it to be out in the world. But for your sake as well as mine, I also wanted it to be produced to the same high standard as my other books.
Thanks to God’s provision, I have been able to secure the services of the very same editor who polished Dust to Destiny: Reading Romans Today back in the 90s. Belinda Pollard has a BTh from Moore College as well as many years experience in the publishing industry. She now freelances for a variety of publishers and self-publishers, and with her team of specialists is guiding me through the process of bringing this book to you.
What your support will mean
The cost of thorough editing, proofreading, book design, cover design, marketing and the first print run adds up to about AUD$20,000. I have borrowed from my retirement savings to get the project started.
